Wrap Up is one fourth of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR), a learning strategy shown to improve students’ reading comprehension when all four parts of CSR are used by students. The role of Wrap Up is to aid students in understanding and remembering what they have learned. This strategy requires two steps: generating questions and reviewing important ideas. As students often have difficulty generating effective questions from text, it may take time for them to learn this skill.

According to extensive research on CSR, Wrap Up must be implemented as part of the CSR strategy if positive effects are to be achieved.

Doors to DiscoveryTM is a preschool literacy curriculum that uses eight thematic units of activities to help children build fundamental early literacy skills in oral language, phonological awareness, concepts of print, alphabet knowledge, writing, and comprehension. The program also contains instruction with early mathematical concepts.

Earobics® is an adaptive, computer-based reading intervention program with supplemental materials. This program focuses on building foundational skills using multimedia materials. Supplemental materials include classroom activities, letter-sound cards, and leveled readers. Earobics® can be used to supplement any core reading program.

The Four-Box Comment Card strategy focuses on deeper comprehension of a text by providing four prompts for the students to answer as they read through a text with discussion time to allow deeper understanding. The most common prompts include one comment, one surprise, on question, or one observation. This strategy can be used in small groups or whole group instruction, and it encourages students to critically think and take a position on an informational text.

Fundations® is multisensory and focuses on hands-on learning with active participation by students, including the use of puppets. Instructional materials include a CD-ROM for teacher training, a manual describing activities, and a specific daily curriculum.  Materials such as manipulatives, student notebooks, word, sound, and syllable cards, and even owl puppets are all used to help teach the curriculum.  A Home Support Pack, available in both English and Spanish, is also a key component of the curriculum.

Headsprout is an adaptive, individualized online reading program for K-5 students. The program is designed to tailor its instruction to the needs and learning pace of every student. This program is designed to be used by students with a variety of reading skills at various reading levels: from non-readers and early readers to established readers already reading above their grade level.

An I-Chart assists students in collecting information about a given topic from multiple resources while organizing and analyzing the information. It provides students the opportunity to research and reason based on inquiry. The chart also facilitates small group or whole group discussion that deepens students’ understanding of a topic.

The Interactive Notebook strategy provides a platform for students to document their own learning and reading experiences in a notebook. They can document information about content-specific material, include drawings and charts, and organize previously completed graphic organizers. The Interactive Notebook allows students to watch his/her learning progress overtime while practicing organization and notetaking skills.

iSPIRE is an intensive reading program for non-readers and struggling readers. The program uses new technology to blend digital and teacher led instruction. The program uses continual practice and review to aid students in mastering concepts.

Kaplan SpellRead™ is a phonological auditory training program. It focuses on phonological automaticity and reading fluency while providing explicit comprehension and vocabulary instruction and opportunities for writing.
