Spencer Van Etten Central School District

Spencer Van-Etten Middle is a public school that serves children in grades 6-8 in the Spencer Van-Etten Central School District located in Spencer, New York.  The middle school is located in a rural area on the western border of Tioga County, about 20 miles south of Ithaca and close to the New York/Pennsylvania border.

School Demographics (2015-2016)
During the 2015-2016 school year, Spencer Van-Etten had a total enrollment of 278 students.  Of these, 59% were considered economically disadvantaged, and 13% received special education services.  The student body is predominately white (95%) and the average class size at Spencer Van-Etten Middle is 18 students. RTI/MTSS Purpose Statement
The purpose of the RtI process at our middle school is for all school community members to work towards student-centered mastery with a growth mindset.


  • Students who are performing at the 45th percentile and above (Tier 1) will make 1 year worth of growth in one year’s time
  • Students who are receiving tier 2 and 3 services will make 70th percentile accelerated growth in one year’s time
  • 100% of students will set, monitor, and achieve learning goals with a supportive mentor
