Carthage Middle School provides instruction for students in grades 5 through 8 as part of the Carthage Central School District.  It is located in the north central part of New York in the foothills of the western Adirondacks and about fifteen miles east of Watertown.

School Demographics (2015-2016)
Carthage Middle is considered a rural public school with a student population of about 990 (2015-2016).  Approximately 20% of students receive special education services and 51% are classified as economically disadvantaged.  Of the 990 students who are enrolled, about 1% are English Language Learners. To provide a safe, student-centered learning environment that engages and encourages parents, staff, and student collaboration working toward improved student academic and socio-emotional growth.


  • Increase parent involvement by hosting informational evenings three times a school year
  • Implement practical and effective Tier 1 strategies to improve student achievement and social behavioral functioning in all classrooms.
  • Provide staff with meaningful professional development on consistent implementation of Tier 1 instructional strategies to meet the academic and behavioral needs of our students.
